Twenty-sixth Sunday in Ordinary Time
First Reading — Ezekiel 18:25–28
God speaks directly to the house of Israel about repentance and personal responsibility.
“He shall surely live.”
God does not desire people to remain in wickedness. Turning away from sin and doing what is right brings life.
Responsorial Psalm — Psalm 25:4–5, 6–7, 8–9
“Remember your mercies, O Lord.”
Teach us Your ways, Lord. Lead us in truth, remember us in mercy, and guide the humble along the right path.
Second Reading — Philippians 2:1–11

Paul calls believers to unity, humility, and concern for one another.
“Have in you the same attitude that is also in Christ Jesus.”
Jesus humbled Himself in obedience—even to death on the cross—and God exalted Him. Jesus Christ is Lord.
Alleluia — John 10:27
“My sheep hear my voice.”
Jesus knows His people, and they follow Him.
Gospel — Matthew 21:28–32
Jesus speaks directly to the chief priests and elders about two sons. One initially refuses his father’s command but later changes his mind and obeys. The other says yes but does not follow through.
Jesus points them back to John the Baptist. Tax collectors and sinners believed John’s message and changed direction, while many religious leaders saw what was happening but still refused to believe.
Kingdom Connection
Notice Jesus’ original audience: the chief priests and elders of Israel.
The issue was not simply what people said about God, but whether they recognized what God was doing through John and Jesus and responded in faith.
Jesus told those leaders that people they looked down upon were entering the Kingdom of God before them because they believed and turned toward God.
The Kingdom was arriving through Christ, and the call was already going out: hear His voice, believe, turn, and follow Him.
