Saturday, September 26, 2026 — Saturday of the Twenty-Fifth Week in Ordinary Time
First Reading — Ecclesiastes 11:9–12:8
Enjoy the days God gives you, but remember that our choices matter before Him.
“Remember your Creator in the days of your youth.”
Our earthly lives pass quickly. Strength, youth, possessions, and accomplishments eventually fade. The body returns to the earth, while the breath of life returns to God who gave it.
“Vanity of vanities… all things are vanity!”
Responsorial Psalm — Psalm 90:3–4, 5–6, 12–13, 14 and 17
“In every age, O Lord, you have been our refuge.”
Our lives are brief compared with God’s eternity.
Teach us to understand how short our days are so that we may grow in wisdom.
Fill us with Your kindness, Lord, and bless the work of our hands.

Christ Jesus defeated death and brought life into the light through the Gospel.
Gospel — Luke 9:43b–45
The people were amazed at what Jesus was doing, but Jesus turned His disciples’ attention toward what was about to happen to Him.
He told them plainly:
“The Son of Man is to be handed over to men.”
The disciples did not yet understand. The meaning was hidden from them, and they were afraid to ask Jesus what He meant.
Jesus was preparing His first-century disciples for the suffering, death, and resurrection that were rapidly approaching.
Summary
Life passes quickly, so Scripture calls us to keep our attention on God rather than temporary things. Jesus knew exactly where His mission was leading. His suffering and death were not an accident—they were part of God’s plan that would lead to resurrection and life.
Kingdom Connection
Jesus was speaking directly to His disciples about events they themselves were approaching. His death and resurrection opened the way into the New Covenant, where life is found in Christ. What the disciples could not yet understand would soon become the message they carried to Israel and then to the Gentiles: Jesus had conquered death and brought life through the Gospel.
