Friday, September 25, 2026 — Friday of the Twenty-fifth Week in Ordinary Time

First Reading — Ecclesiastes 3:1–11

“There is an appointed time for everything.”

“A time to be born, and a time to die; a time to plant, and a time to uproot.”

“A time to weep, and a time to laugh; a time to mourn, and a time to dance.”

God has appointed seasons and times throughout human life. Ecclesiastes reminds us that God sees the whole picture even when we cannot understand His work from beginning to end.

Responsorial Psalm — Psalm 144:1b and 2abc, 3–4

“Blessed be the Lord, my Rock!”

“Man is like a breath; his days, like a passing shadow.”

Human life is brief, but God remains our rock, fortress, deliverer, and shield.

Alleluia — Mark 10:45

“The Son of Man came to serve and to give his life as a ransom for many.”

Gospel — Luke 9:18–22

Jesus asks His disciples:

“Who do the crowds say that I am?”

Then He makes the question personal:

“But who do you say that I am?”

Peter answers:

“The Christ of God.”

Jesus then tells His disciples that the Son of Man will suffer, be rejected and killed, and “on the third day be raised.”

Kingdom Connection

Peter recognized Jesus as God’s promised Christ within that first-century generation. Jesus immediately connected His identity as Messiah with His coming suffering, death, and resurrection. The Kingdom would come through the victory of the risen Christ—not through the kind of earthly political kingdom many in Israel expected.
