Saturday of the Twenty-seventh Week in Ordinary Time

Lectionary 466

First Reading — Galatians 3:22–29

Scripture paraphrased

Galatians 3:22 — Scripture shows that everyone is under the power of sin so that God’s promise might be received through faith in Jesus Christ.

Galatians 3:23–25 — Before faith in Christ was revealed, the Law served as a guardian, preparing God’s people for the coming Messiah. Now that Christ has come, believers are no longer under that guardian.

Galatians 3:26–27 — Through faith in Jesus Christ, you have become God’s children. Those baptized into Christ have taken on a new identity in Him.

Galatians 3:28–29 — Whether Jew or Gentile, slave or free, male or female, all believers are united in Christ. Those belonging to Christ are Abraham’s descendants and heirs of God’s promise.

Paul explains that the Old Covenant Law prepared Israel for Christ. Through faith, both Jews and Gentiles now share in Abraham’s promised blessing.

Responsorial Psalm — Psalm 105:2–3, 4–5, 6–7

Response: The Lord remembers His covenant forever.

Psalm 105:2–3 — Sing praises to the Lord and tell others about His wonderful works. Let everyone who seeks Him rejoice.

Psalm 105:4–5 — Continually seek the Lord and His strength. Remember His miracles and the judgments He has declared.

Psalm 105:6–7 — Descendants of Abraham and Jacob, remember that the Lord is your God. His authority and judgments extend throughout the earth.

Alleluia — Luke 11:28

Those who listen to God’s Word and faithfully obey it are truly blessed.

Gospel — Luke 11:27–28

Scripture paraphrased

Luke 11:27 — While Jesus was teaching, a woman in the crowd called out, praising the mother who had given birth to Him and cared for Him.

Luke 11:28 — Jesus responded by emphasizing an even greater blessing: belonging to those who hear God’s Word and put it into practice.

Jesus teaches that true blessing comes through hearing and obeying God’s Word. Faithful obedience matters more than family relationships or earthly position.
