Memorial of Our Lady of the Rosary
Reading 1 — Galatians 2:1-2, 7-14
• Paul returned to Jerusalem with Barnabas and Titus and explained the Gospel he was preaching among the Gentiles.
• The apostles recognized that Peter had been entrusted with the Gospel among the Jews, while Paul had been entrusted with the Gospel among the Gentiles.
• James, Cephas, and John welcomed Paul and Barnabas as partners in the same mission.
• Paul later confronted Peter when fear caused him to separate himself from Gentile believers.
• Paul’s question was direct: if Peter himself was no longer living according to Jewish boundary lines, why require Gentiles to live as Jews?
The Gospel was opening the family of God to both Jews and Gentiles through Christ rather than requiring Gentiles to become Jews first.
Responsorial Psalm — Psalm 117:1bc, 2
Response: “Go out to all the world, and tell the Good News.”
• Praise the Lord, all nations.
• Glorify Him, all peoples.
• His mercy toward us is strong.
• The Lord’s faithfulness lasts forever.
God’s saving message was never meant to remain with one nation alone. The Good News was going outward to all peoples.
Alleluia — Romans 8:15bc
• We have received the Spirit of adoption.
• Through Him we cry out to God as “Abba, Father.”
Through Christ, believers are brought into the family of God.
Gospel — Luke 11:1-4
• The disciples asked Jesus, “Lord, teach us to pray.”
• Jesus taught them to begin with the Father and the holiness of His name.
• “Your Kingdom come.”
• Ask God for daily provision.
• Ask forgiveness while also forgiving others.
• Ask God to preserve us in times of testing.
Jesus teaches a simple, Kingdom-centered prayer built on trust in the Father, daily dependence, forgiveness, and faithfulness.
Kingdom Connection
Galatians gives us a clear picture of what was happening in that first-century generation. Peter was especially sent to the Jews, while Paul was sent to the Gentiles, yet both served the same Gospel. The old covenant distinctions that separated Jew and Gentile were giving way to a people united in Christ. Jesus’ prayer fits that transition beautifully: “Your Kingdom come.” God was gathering His people into His Kingdom through His Son.
