Tuesday of the Twenty-seventh Week in Ordinary Time

Reading 1 — Galatians 1:13-24

• Paul reminds the Galatians how fiercely he once persecuted the Church of God.
• He had advanced in Judaism and was deeply devoted to the traditions of his ancestors.
• But God had set him apart and called him by grace.
• God revealed His Son to Paul so that he could proclaim Christ among the Gentiles.
• Paul did not receive his mission from human authority; his calling came from God.
• The churches in Judea heard the remarkable news: the man who had once persecuted believers was now preaching the faith he had tried to destroy.
• Because of Paul’s transformation, they glorified God.

Paul’s life became living evidence of the power of Christ to completely redirect a person’s purpose.

Responsorial Psalm — Psalm 139:1b-3, 13-14ab, 14c-15

Response: Guide me, Lord, along the everlasting way.

• Lord, You know when I sit and when I stand.
• You understand my thoughts and know all my ways.
• You formed my inmost being and knit me together in my mother’s womb.
• I praise You because Your works are wonderful.
• Even when I was formed in secret, nothing about me was hidden from You.

The Psalm reminds us that God knows us completely—from before birth and throughout every part of our lives.

Alleluia — Luke 11:28

Blessed are those who hear the Word of God and faithfully live according to it.

Gospel — Luke 10:38-42

• Martha welcomes Jesus into her home.
• Her sister Mary sits at the Lord’s feet and listens to His teaching.
• Martha becomes anxious and distracted by all the work of serving.
• She asks Jesus to tell Mary to help her.
• Jesus gently tells Martha that she is worried about many things.
• Mary has chosen what is truly necessary: to sit at the Lord’s feet and hear His Word.

Jesus does not condemn serving. He teaches that listening to Him must come first.

Kingdom Connection

Paul’s testimony shows the covenant transition already taking place in that first-century generation. He moved from intense devotion to ancestral traditions to proclaiming Jesus Christ among the Gentiles. God was bringing Jews and Gentiles together around Christ, not around the old covenant boundary markers. And in the Gospel, Mary shows the posture required in that new life: sit at Jesus’ feet, hear His Word, and follow Him.
